Asian capital very active in the Baltic region

Ellex has recently advised China's Guangzhou Hangxin Aviation Technology on the acquisition of a full-service aircraft maintenance company Magnetic MRO for €43 million from BaltCap. This is one of the largest investments made by the Chinese in the past years in the Baltic region and serves as another great example that the Chinese interest in this region is growing.
The transaction was advised by Partner Risto Vahimets, Senior Associate Karl-Erich Trisberg and Lawyer Anna Trine Raudsepp in Estonia and Associate Partner Robertas Čiočys in Lithuania.
According to Risto Vahimets, the interest of Asian capital towards the region is showing rapid increase and the Baltics are a very logical way in entering the European market. „Some recent examples include the investment in Latvian cosmetics company Stenders SIA by Chinese institutional investor CICC Ehealthcare Investment Fund as well as the investment of Chinese ride-sharing company Didi Chuxing in Taxify. It was also remarkable that in January 2018 the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe started his tour of European countries from Estonia. Abe, accompanied by a delegation of 30 representatives from big Japanese businesses, visited six countries over five days and in doing so, sent a strong signal that Japan is open for business and shopping around to expand its business opportunities in the region.“
