Ellex in Estonia ranked among TOP law firms

Äripäev, Estonia’s business newspaper with the widest circulation, lists Ellex law firm among the three most successful law firms in Estonia.

“Last year’s good results are based on the office’s rapid adaptation to the changed situation and the selfless work of our team. We were able to switch to working from home quickly and smoothly, which gave our colleagues the necessary flexibility to reconcile work and private life in the conditions of a pandemic,” said Ants Nõmper, managing partner of Ellex in Estonia.

He added that the law firm’s success story has continued this year, and the law firm has decided to value the contribution of all lawyers by increasing their salaries by 20% from January 1, 2022. New times have created new legal challenges for clients and changed their business models.

According to Ants, with the rise of the law firm market as a whole during the pandemic, the gap between the three largest law firms (Ellex, Cobalt and Sorainen) and the law firms following the top three has also increased. The main challenge for the market is to fight for talent in a situation where the growth in the number of members of the Bar Association has stopped and more and more colleagues are temporarily suspending their activities as lawyers. Nõmper stated that the struggle for talent does not take place so much between the law firms themselves, but between the law firms and the booming start-up sector in Estonia.

“We are optimistic about the future. Apparently, the coronavirus has come to stay, and it won’t stop the economy anymore,” Nõmper discussed. He added that both traditional banks and venture capitalists have the money to invest. According to him, investments should keep the economies of Estonia’s neighbouring markets going well, and this will allow stable economic growth in the coming years.
