Mari Must is an intellectual property (IP) counsel at Ellex Estonia, with over two decades of extensive experience in both contentious and non-contentious IP matters. She manages complex cross-border IP projects, representing clients in IP litigation, revocation and opposition proceedings, and advising both global companies and local businesses on IP rights management, IP due diligence, IP commercialisation, and contract negotiations.

Owing to her dual qualification as an Attorney at Law and a Trademark Attorney, she is able to offer clients a full spectrum of trademark services — from prosecution and strategy to representation before Estonian, EU, and international dispute resolution bodies, including the Estonian Supreme Court. She is one of only two attorneys in Estonia with this dual qualification. Her experience in copyright matters extends from dispute resolution to contract drafting.

As the first registered representative before the Unified Patent Court from Estonia, and with years of experience in patent litigation and validity disputes Mari has gained in-depth expertise in patent litigation and validity issues.

Since 2012, Mari Must has served as a member of the Estonian Domain Name Dispute Committee, where she has adjudicated numerous domain name disputes, adding valuable perspective from the decision-maker’s side.

She contributed to the establishment and launch of the Chamber of Estonian Patent Attorneys in 2016, initially serving as Vice-Chair and now re-elected as a Board Member. Mari is also a regular lecturer at the IP seminars.

Mari Must offers extensive experience in intellectual property disputes, with a particular focus on trade mark infringement, opposition and revocation proceedings. She is also well equipped to handle patent mandates, often on behalf of pharmaceutical companies. “Mari Must is a proactive lawyer who is able to give advice and make decisions,” a client notes.
