The Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic opened in Vilnius
On Monday, 15 November, the Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic was officially opened in Vilnius. The diplomatic mission, which will further strengthen bilateral relations between Lithuania and Slovakia, is situated in the premises of the law firm Ellex Valiunas, and the position of Honorary Consul in Lithuania is held by a partner of the law firm Ramūnas Petravičius.
The opening ceremony of the consulate was attended by the Ambassador of the Slovak Republic Ladislav Babčan, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Dr. Arnoldas Pranckevičius, and State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Martin Klus who was on a visit to Vilnius. Taking part in the ceremony were also representatives of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, public figures and other honourable guests.
It was repeatedly emphasised during the ceremony that Slovakia and Lithuania are allies in the European Union and NATO defending the rule of law and democracy, supporting the Western Balkans and Eastern Partnership and strengthening transatlantic ties. Therefore, the establishment of the Honorary Consulate in Vilnius is a timely step in this partnership.
Honorary Consul of the Slovak Republic R. Petravičius underlines that the opening of the Honorary Consulate in Vilnius will facilitate the protection of the rights and interests of citizens of the Slovak Republic, living or studying in Lithuania, as well as will deepen bilateral trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
R. Petravičius is not the only partner of the law firm Ellex Valiunas holding the position of Honorary Consul. Partner Vilija Vaitkutė Pavan is the Honorary Consul of Luxembourg, partner Dr. Jaunius Gumbis is the Honorary Consul of Brazil, and managing partner Rolandas Valiūnas is the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Thailand. Honorary consuls do not receive any remuneration in this position and their duties are not related to the activities of the law firm.
