Ellex supports educational initiative TI-hüpe: bringing AI to Estonian high schools

Ellex in Estonia is a partner in the educational initiative TI-hüpe, which aims to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) into Estonian high school education in a structured and thoughtful way. This groundbreaking project helps young people better understand and utilize the possibilities of AI in both academic and everyday contexts.

143 high schools have joined the TI-hüpe initiative, and over 3,800 teachers are participating in training sessions to gain the knowledge and skills needed to integrate AI into their teaching practices. One of the most significant milestones of the project is the agreement with OpenAI, which enables schools to access ChatGPT Edu—a version of ChatGPT specifically tailored for educational institutions.

While teachers are already exploring ChatGPT, a customized version for students will be rolled out in schools before November. In addition, AI workshops will begin in October in collaboration with the Estonian Debating Society, the Estonian National Youth Council, and the Estonian School Student Councils’ Union, helping students better understand the opportunities and challenges of AI.

Merlin Liis-Toomela, Antti Perli, and Hegle Pärna have been actively involved in the project, ensuring that all legal aspects are properly addressed. Their contribution includes support in establishing and organizing the foundation created to implement the initiative, negotiating the agreement with OpenAI, and advising on data protection matters to ensure the security of students’ and teachers’ personal data.
