The Hospital of Orthopaedics to be sold to private medical group Confido

Ellex in Estonia advised the sale of 100% stakes in The Hospital of Orthopaedics (AS Ortopeedia Arstid) to Confido Healthcare Group OÜ, the largest private medical group in Estonia.

According to Mihkel Mardna, a member of the Orthopedic Doctors’ Association, the parties have a very clear vision on how to proceed together. “Providing state-of-the-art medical services today requires continuous development, a competent team, in-service training for young orthopedists and substantial investment in new technologies. It is much easier to ensure all this with the help of larger volumes and a stronger structure,” explained Mardna, who believes that all hospital’s patients as well as the entire team will benefit from the resulting synergy.

“We want to give a new meaning and an even greater impetus to the successful cooperation between Confido and The Hospital of Orthopaedics over the years. Above all, patients who will have more convenient and faster access to a much wider range of services will benefit from the acquisition of The Hospital of Orthopaedics,” said Tarmo Laanetu, a major owner of Confido Healthcare Group.

The Hospital of Orthopaedics perform nearly 10,000 outpatient appointments and nearly 2,000 surgeries a year, and the company employs a total of 30 people. After the transaction takes effect, the current owners of the hospital Mihkel Mardna, Madis Rahu, Armin Heiman, Tauno Kalvet and Meelis Sula, as well as all other well-known orthopedists and the current CEO Diana Timosheva will continue to share their knowledge and skills in the company.

According to Annika Uudelepp, the head of Confido’s health services, the acquisition of The Hospital of Orthopaedics creates excellent synergies between Confido specialists, high-level operating theaters, a patient-friendly environment and top-level orthopedic competence. “With a stronger team, we can help patients even more comprehensively,” emphasized Uudelepp.

The current owners of The Hospital of Orthopaedics – Mihkel Mardna, Madis Rahu, Armin Heiman, Tauno Kalvet and Meelis Sula – were advised by Partners Ants Nõmper and Ermo Kosk and Counsel Rutt Värk.

The transaction requires permission from the Competition Authority.

The Hospital of Orthopaedics is a privately owned hospital for elective orthopaedic surgery founded by leading specialists in Estonia.
