Nordea Bank and Ellex hosted FinanceEstonia members and partners

Last week, Ellex Estonia and Nordea Bank brought together FinanceEstonia members and partners to discuss crisis preparedness and organizational resilience in a rapidly changing security and economic environment. The meeting focused on lessons learned from the banking, energy, and food sectors, as well as the question of how to prepare for increasingly complex risk scenarios.

During a panel discussion on crisis preparedness, moderated by Ellex partner Gerli Kivisoo, Danel Freiberg, Head of Treasury and Financial Risk at Eesti Energia, Katre Kõvask, CEO of Yooki; Mihkel Torim, Chairman of the Management Board of LHV Group; and Tiina Käsi, Head of Nordea Bank Estonia.
The discussion highlighted that preparing for crises no longer means merely mitigating individual risks. In today’s security and economic environment, multiple crises can unfold simultaneously, and problems in one sector can quickly spread to other areas.

In the energy sector, security issues have increasingly come to the fore in recent years alongside technical and economic risks. In the food sector, the critical importance of supply chain functionality was emphasized, as was the need to assess companies’ ability to operate even under conditions of limited resources. In banking, the focus has shifted increasingly from financial risks to cybersecurity, technological resilience, and ensuring the continuity of critical services.

One key conclusion of the panel discussion was that, in addition to technological solutions, crisis preparedness depends largely on people. The ability of leaders to support their teams and the readiness of employees to act in challenging circumstances are central to an organization’s resilience.
