A. Le Coq has signed an agreement to acquire Värska Originaal
Ellex in Estonia advised Estonian beverage producer A. Le Coq in a major deal in Estonia’s beverage market, involving the acquisition of 100% of the shares in Värska Originaal AS, one of the country’s most recognised natural mineral water producers. With this transaction, A. Le Coq expands its non-alcoholic product portfolio and anticipates new opportunities in export markets.
A. Le Coq’s managing director, Jaanus Vihand, commented, “To compete long-term with large foreign companies, especially in export markets, it is necessary to broaden the non-alcoholic product portfolio and increase production capacity. That’s why we have been looking for opportunities to realize our strategic ambitions. Värska’s mineral waters, which support a healthy lifestyle, complement our existing portfolio well, and bringing this beloved domestic brand under our roof is a great honor.”
Värska mineral water has been the most loved mineral water among Estonians for over 50 years. During this time, the company has developed into a modern beverage producer, with a portfolio that includes natural mineral water as well as innovative and award-winning drinks based on mineral water, such as Värska Vurtsvasser and Värska Magnesium.
“The cooperation will allow us to accelerate product development and bring Värska to even more consumers both in Estonia and abroad. At the same time, production will remain in Värska, as natural mineral water can only be produced at the source. Our people will continue their work, and our brand values will remain unchanged,” said Värska Originaal management board member Rauno Jõgeva.
The purchase and sale transaction will be finalized once approval has been obtained from the Competition Authority. The deal is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
Ellex project team included Kaisa Jakobsoo, Merlin Liis-Toomela, Hanna Pahk, Liisbeth Eero, Katrina Külm, and Karin Tartu. The overall process was managed by Alla Kuznetsova and Risto Vahimets, while the merger clearance process is led by Martin Mäesalu and Miikael Tuus.
