Superangel invests in maritime defence innovator Kraken Technology Group
Ellex in Estonia advised venture capital fund Superangel on its recent investment in Kraken Technology Group, a UK-based developer of next-generation uncrewed surface vessels (USVs).
Kraken secured simultaneous funding from several high-profile investors, including the NATO Innovation Fund (NIF) and the UK’s National Security Strategic Investment Fund (NSSIF). This marks a significant milestone in the company’s growth, enabling it to scale production, accelerate R&D, and expand internationally.
Kraken is redefining naval operations with scalable, modular maritime systems designed to address emerging security needs — particularly in the Baltic Sea region and other NATO-relevant areas. Its platforms offer advanced surveillance, force protection, and multi-domain capabilities with reduced risk to personnel and significantly lower cost compared to traditional fleets.
Among Kraken’s product lineup are the K3 SCOUT, a high-performance USV already in NATO exercises, and the K4 MANTA, a subsurface-capable deployment platform — both designed for agile, modular use across maritime missions.
Mal Crease, CEO of Kraken Technology Group, commented, “As traditional fleets adapt to changing threats, Kraken’s unmanned systems allow for smarter, more efficient use of crewed assets whilst delivering scalable end-user capability at a fraction of the traditional cost point. The investment received is a powerful vote of confidence in Kraken and its platforms, particularly given the nature of the funds. We look forward to working with the NIF, NSSIF, and others as we continue to grow our capabilities and further our mission in partnership with other NATO countries.”
Ellex continues to support investments that advance technological innovation and regional security. Superangel was advised by Partner Antti Perli and Counsel Rutt Värk.
