Mikijs Zīmecs is a senior associate who specializes in data protection, IT, IP and corporate law. He has substantial experience carrying out data processing audits and rendering assistance on compliance with GDPR for multinational and national companies. His level of expertise is confirmed by a CIPP/E certificate issued by IAPP, a Data Protection Officers certificate issued by the Latvian Data State Inspectorate as well as by published articles, conducted seminars and successfully defended dissertations on subjects linked to personal data protection.

The new Personal data processing law in Latvia comes into effect

On July 5th, 2018, new Personal Data Processing Law (the “DPL”) has entered into force in Latvia, which replaces Law on Personal Data Protection. The new law sets out additional obligations in the field of data protection and derogations from the General Data Protection Regulation (the “GDPR”).
