Refinitiv 2022: Ellex is the no 1 legal adviser in the Eastern European M&A market by deal count

Ellex has been ranked as 1^st by deal count in the Eastern-European mid-market and small-cap market segments in Refinitiv’s newly published legal advisory league tables of the year of 2022.

In addition, Ellex is the only Baltic law firm ranked in the Nordic advisory tables both in Mid-Market and Small-Cap market segments. It is a great recognition to be the highest-ranked Baltic law firm among the most reputable Nordic firms.

During the last year, Refinitiv credited a total number of 71 deal for Ellex in Mid-Market segment and 68 deals in Small-Market (Eastern Europe). The credited deal value for Ellex in the Eastern European region is US$ 466.1 million (Mid-Market) and US$ 181.1 million (Small-Cap).

Announced league tables include all deals that were announced between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022, and of which Refinitiv was made aware. League tables include rank eligible mergers, acquisitions, repurchases, spin-offs, self-tenders, minority stake purchases and debt restructurings.

Mid-Market M&A down 26%; exceeds US$1 trillion for second consecutive year

Global mid-market M&A deals valued up to US$500 million (including undisclosed value deals), reached US$1.1 trillion during full year 2022, a decrease of 26% compared to year-ago levels and the slowest opening annual period for mid-market M&A since 2020. Mid-market deal making surpassed US$1 trillion for the second consecutive year. Mid-market transactions during the fourth quarter decreased 15% compared to the third quarter of 2022. By number of deals, mid-market M&A reached nearly 54,419 deals during full year 2022, a 15% decrease compared to a year ago and a two-year low.

Small-Cap M&A deal making down 20%

Worldwide small-cap M&A deals valued up to US$50 million (including undisclosed value deals) reached US$201.1 billion during full year 2022, a decrease of 20% compared to a year ago and the slowest annual period for small-cap M&A since 2020.

By number of worldwide deals, small-cap deal making decreased 14% compared to full year 2021, hitting a two-year low.
